With support from Opportunity Oregon, Dylan found full-time employment, built financial stability, and continued making progress toward his personal goals after incarceration.

As Dylan prepared for release from Santiam Correctional Institution, he was eager for a fresh start. An avid BMX rider, he originally hoped to attend school to become a bicycle mechanic.

But he also knew that finding employment quickly would be an important first step toward rebuilding his life.

Three weeks before his release, Dylan connected with Opportunity Oregon through Fallyn McCarty. After transitioning into supportive housing through Sponsors, he began working with the reentry team to develop his resume, prepare cover letters, and explore job opportunities.

Finding Opportunity in an Unexpected Place

When St. Vincent de Paul expressed interest in hiring participants from the reentry program, Dylan learned about an available maintenance technician position.

Although it wasn’t the career path he had originally envisioned, the opportunity sparked his interest.

Opportunity Oregon helped him submit his application, and Dylan took it from there. He was hired as a full-time Maintenance Technician, earning benefits and becoming part of a team he enjoys working with.

The stability of employment has accompanied other important milestones. Dylan transitioned into an Oxford House sober living home and celebrated one year of sobriety on October 13, 2025.

He has also become an active member of his recovery community, taking on service responsibilities and working to encourage others.

Dylan’s story shows how reentry services can help people discover new opportunities, build stability, and create a foundation for continued personal and professional growth.
