what does this mean for employers?
OYEP allowed James’ Engineering Department to take on two very capable high school interns who tackled a project that he’d had on his plate for ages. The fact that they were being paid through the program, not Western Shelter, was the reason the company could bring them on. James said their presence was really helpful. He likes working with younger designers and engineers because they’re ‘doers’. Both young men were genuinely excited about work each day because they enjoyed it, and they brought a youthful light and energy to the office. James said he started in this industry as a person on the production floor and was able to move up because of opportunities presented to him and he wanted to pay that forward.
